What is aphasia therapy?

Traditional aphasia therapy usually involves sessions with a speech-language pathologist who uses exercises and activities to help individuals improve their language skills.

The therapist helps the person practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing. These activities often include things like naming pictures, practicing finding the right words, and having conversations.

Sometimes, the therapist also teaches ways to use tools called Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). AAC helps people who have trouble speaking. These tools can be things like using picture boards or special devices.

The therapy is designed just for the person, based on their type of aphasia. The main goal is to help them communicate better in everyday life.

Sessions may also include family training to support communication in daily life.
