Frequently Asked Questions

  • WHO DO YOU WORK WITH?

AphasiaCo works with anyone impacted by a brain injury and aphasia. We work with the person with aphasia, care partners, and loved ones.

We can work 1:1 with the person with aphasia, 1:1 with the care partner, or as a group with the person with aphasia and their care partner together.

    We encourage family participation!

  • WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

AphasiaCo is online only. Services are virtual so all you need is a computer and internet connection.

Due to licensing, we currently work with residents of New Jersey.

If you are not a resident of New Jersey, please get in touch anyway as we are expanding our licensing.

  • WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ONLINE SPEECH THERAPY VS APPOINTMENTS IN OFFICE?

    Online appointments have many benefits:

    - Convenience → you save time vs traveling to sessions.

    - Easy to access → you don’t need to worry about finding a ride.

    - Flexibility → you can fit therapy around your schedule.

    - Safety → if the weather is bad or you’re feeling sick, you can still have your session from the comfort of home.

    - Personalized → you can practice what you learn in your own home and daily activities.

  • HOW LONG ARE SESSIONS?

The initial evaluation is approximately 60-90 minutes where we will discuss your background and needs. You will receive a written report afterward.

Treatment sessions are approximately 45 minutes, although the time may be shortened or expanded depending on your needs.

  • HOW MANY TREATMENT SESSIONS ARE NEEDED? HOW FREQUENTLY WILL WE MEET?

It depends! We will discuss your needs and find a plan that works for you.

Generally, more traditional speech therapy (exercises, etc) will be once or twice per week to address a treatment plan.

Counseling and life participation therapy can be done on an as-needed basis. This might be only 1-2 sessions or could be on a more long term basis. We will make a plan together.

  • DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

OCTOBER 1 UPDATE: As of September 30, 2025, coverage for virtual (telehealth) visits under Medicare has expired. This change is due to Congress not passing legislation to extend the temporary telehealth coverage provisions that were in place nationwide.

What this means for Medicare beneficiaries:

Virtual visits are no longer covered under Medicare unless otherwise stated in updated policies.

In the meantime, beneficiaries may choose to continue virtual care by paying the out-of-network fee for services.

We encourage all patients to check with their Medicare plan or visit Medicare.gov for the most current information regarding telehealth benefits.

    - - -

We accept Medicare Part B (please see 10/1/25 update above) and we are out-of-network with other insurances. If you do not have Medicare Part B, we will give you an invoice receipt (a.k.a. “superbill”) for you to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.
