Emily Losordo, M.S., CCC-SLP
Owner & Speech-Language Pathologist
Hi, I’m Emily! I’m a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist with 7+ years of experience in neuro-rehabilitation and brain care. I’m licensed in the state of New Jersey.
EDUCATION
I completed my Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science at the University of Delaware.
I earned my Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions (MGH IHP), with a concentration in Medical Speech-Language Pathology.
EXPERIENCE
During graduate school, I completed a clinical rotation at Massachusetts General Hospital, where I was trained in the neurology ICU and the neuro critical care unit.
After graduation, I completed my clinical fellowship and continued working at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, NJ. Kessler is an acute inpatient rehab hospital serving people recovering from strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and other neurological diagnoses. I specialized in their brain injury unit. Spending over 6 years in this hospital gave me invaluable experience treating individuals with brain injuries and neurogenic communication disorders.
WHY I CREATED APHASIACO
Aphasia is what first drew me to speech-language pathology.
As an undergraduate, I shadowed a speech-language pathologist and was deeply moved by a patient, a doctor in her 50s who experienced a stroke. Witnessing her recovery journey, and the pivotal role that her fantastic speech therapist played in it, inspired me to pursue this profession.
I’ve always been passionate about neurology and rehabilitation, but aphasia remains at the heart of my work. I love connecting with people, problem solving communication challenges, and helping individuals find meaningful ways to express themselves.
I founded AphasiaCo to offer more a person-centered approach than what is often possible within the traditional medical model of therapy. I also wanted to provide more resources and support for care partners and loved ones, who play a crucial role in the recovery process.
MORE ABOUT ME
In my free time, I enjoy gardening, trying new restaurants and recipes, traveling, spending time with my friends and family, and rooting for the New York Mets.
